Direct Support Professional (DSP) – Outpatient Behavioral Health Services Job Title: Direct Support Professional (DSP)

Employment Type: Full-Time / Part-Time Position Summary The Direct Support Professional (DSP) provides community-based and outpatient behavioral health support services to individuals with mental health, substance use, intellectual/developmental disabilities (I/DD), and co-occurring disorders. The DSP assists individuals in achieving personal goals, developing independent living skills, improving social functioning, and accessing community resources while promoting recovery, wellness, and self-determination. Services are delivered in accordance with North Carolina regulations, agency policies, person-centered planning principles, and ethical standards of care. Essential Duties and Responsibilities • Provide direct support services to individuals receiving outpatient behavioral health services. • Assist individuals in developing and maintaining daily living skills, including personal care, budgeting, meal preparation, household management, and community integration. • Support individuals in implementing person-centered goals identified in treatment plans and service plans. • Monitor and document client progress toward goals and objectives. • Facilitate skill-building activities related to communication, social interaction, emotional regulation, and independent living. • Assist clients in accessing community resources, healthcare appointments, educational opportunities, employment services, and recreational activities. • Maintain professional boundaries and therapeutic relationships with clients and families. • Observe and report behavioral, emotional, and physical changes to supervisors and treatment team members. • Respond appropriately to crisis situations and follow established crisis intervention procedures. • Complete service documentation accurately and within required timeframes. • Participate in team meetings, supervision sessions, and required trainings. • Ensure compliance with North Carolina Department of Health and Human Services (NCDHHS) regulations, Medicaid requirements, and agency policies. • Transport clients as needed using agency-approved vehicles or personal vehicles in accordance with agency policy. • Maintain confidentiality and protect client rights in accordance with HIPAA and applicable regulations. Required Qualifications • High School Diploma or GED required. • At least 18 years of age. • Valid North Carolina driver's license with acceptable driving record. • Reliable transportation and proof of automobile insurance. • Ability to pass criminal background checks and other required screenings. • Strong communication, interpersonal, and organizational skills. • Ability to work independently and as part of a multidisciplinary team. • Basic computer skills and ability to complete electronic documentation. Preferred Qualifications • Associate's or Bachelor's degree in Human Services, Psychology, Social Work, Counseling, or a related field. • Experience working with individuals experiencing mental health, substance use, or developmental disability challenges. • Certification in CPR, First Aid, and crisis intervention techniques. • Knowledge of person-centered planning, trauma-informed care, and recovery-oriented practices. Physical Requirements • Ability to stand, walk, bend, lift, and assist individuals as needed. • Ability to travel throughout the community to provide services. • Ability to respond effectively during behavioral health emergencies. The DSP may work flexible schedules, including evenings and weekends, based on client needs and program requirements.
